Publication Ethics

General Statement Surya Informatika Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by LPPM Universitas Muhammadiyah Pekajangan Pekalongan. The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, accountability, and professional conduct throughout the publication process. This policy applies to all participants involved in scholarly publishing, including authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and the publisher. Surya Informatika Journal adopts the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and supports the implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 39 of 2021 concerning Academic Integrity in Producing Scholarly Works.
 
Academic Integrity Principles Surya Informatika Journal promotes academic integrity as the foundation of scholarly communication. In accordance with national regulations and institutional policies, all participants involved in the publication process are expected to uphold the following values:

  • Courage
 
These principles guide ethical decision-making and support the development of a responsible academic culture.
 
Research Integrity and Publication Misconduct Surya Informatika Journal is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record. Publication misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
  • Fabrication of research data or information.
  • Falsification or manipulation of research data, methods, or findings.
  • Plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
  • Improper authorship practices.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Multiple, redundant, or simultaneous submissions.
  • Image manipulation that misrepresents research findings.
  • Citation manipulation and peer-review manipulation.
  • Misrepresentation of ethical approvals, research procedures, or results.
 
Suspected cases of misconduct will be evaluated fairly, confidentially, and transparently. Depending on the severity of the case, the journal may take actions including: requesting clarification from authors, rejecting manuscripts, publishing corrections, issuing an editorial expression of concern, or retracting published articles.
 
Complaints and Appeals Surya Informatika Journal provides a mechanism for handling complaints and appeals related to editorial decisions, peer-review processes, publication delays, alleged conflicts of interest, citation manipulation, alleged publication misconduct, and editorial or reviewer conduct. All complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, confidentially, and transparently.
 
Ethical Oversight Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical, legal, and professional standards. Given the focus of this journal on informatics and computer science, data privacy is crucial. Where applicable, authors must provide evidence of:
  • Ethical approval for research involving human participants (e.g., in Human-Computer Interaction studies).
  • Informed consent from research participants.
  • Appropriate and secure management of confidential or sensitive data.
  • Permission to use copyrighted materials, datasets, images, or third-party content.
 
Data Availability and Reproducibility Authors are encouraged to retain research data and supporting materials that underpin the findings reported in their manuscripts. The journal may request access to underlying data during editorial evaluation. Authors should ensure that data are stored responsibly and made available when appropriate, subject to legal, ethical, privacy, or proprietary restrictions.
 
Authorship and Contributorship Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research. Authors are expected to:
  • Contribute significantly to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the study.
  • Participate in drafting or critically revising the manuscript.
  • Approve the final version of the manuscript.
  • Accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.
 
The following practices are considered unethical: gift authorship, honorary authorship, ghost authorship, and purchased authorship. Any change in authorship after submission must be approved by all authors and justified to the editor.
 
Conflicts of Interest and Funding Transparency Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any relationships or interests that could influence their judgment. Potential conflicts may include financial relationships, research grants, employment, personal relationships, or intellectual property interests. Authors should clearly disclose funding sources. If no conflicts exist, authors should state: "The authors declare no competing interests."
 
Citation Integrity Authors, reviewers, and editors should ensure that citations are relevant, accurate, and academically justified. The journal does not tolerate excessive self-citation, coercive citation, citation stacking, or citation cartels. Citation practices should support scholarly communication rather than manipulate metrics.
 
Responsibilities of the Publisher LPPM Universitas Muhammadiyah Pekajangan Pekalongan, as the publisher, is responsible and committed to ensuring that advertisements, reprints, or other commercial revenues have no impact or influence on editorial decisions. Furthermore, the publisher will assist the editor in communicating with other journals and/or publishers if necessary in handling ethical issues.
 
Responsibilities of Editors Editors are responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and fairness of the editorial process. Editors shall:
  • Decide which articles should be published based on objective input from peer reviewers, without discrimination regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.
  • Process manuscripts sequentially according to their submission date in the Online Journal System (OJS) and ensure that reviewer responses form the basis for the decision (accepted, accepted with revisions, or rejected).
  • Ensure the manuscript aligns with the journal's scope and conduct plagiarism checks (similarity checks) on all incoming articles.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding information related to the manuscript, disclosing it only to the authors and authorized reviewers.
  • Avoid subjective decisions by not imposing personal opinions, seeking scientifically justifiable solutions, and encouraging authors to improve their manuscripts until they are worthy of publication.
  • Be responsible for the style and format of the scientific writing, while the content and all statements within the work remain the full responsibility of the authors.
  • Implement processes that guarantee the quality of published works and meet the needs of both readers and authors.
 
Editors shall not:
  • Discriminate against authors based on personal characteristics or institutional affiliation.
  • Use unpublished information for personal advantage.
  • Allow personal, institutional, or commercial interests to influence editorial decisions.
 
Responsibilities of Authors Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their work. Authors shall:
  • Write articles based on accurate research and present findings honestly.
  • Write the article in accordance with the guidelines and template of Surya Informatika Journal.
  • Ensure that the article submitted is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not currently under consideration by another journal.
  • Inform the editor in writing if they intend to withdraw their manuscript before the publication process is complete.
  • Promptly make revisions if there is feedback from the reviewers.
  • Properly acknowledge all sources used with appropriate citations.
 
Authors shall not:
  • Fabricate, falsify, or plagiarize.
  • Misuse authorship or conceal conflicts of interest.
  • Submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
 
Responsibilities of Reviewers Reviewers play a vital role in maintaining the quality and credibility of published research. Reviewers shall:
  • Provide positive, constructive suggestions, input, and recommendations for the manuscript.
  • Assist the editor in making editorial decisions through objective content evaluation supported by scientific arguments.
  • Accept review assignments only within their area of expertise and complete them within the agreed timeline.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the reviewed manuscript; they must not discuss the manuscript with anyone other than the journal editor.
 
Reviewers shall not:
  • Use manuscript content for personal advantage.
  • Share confidential information with unauthorized parties.
  • Allow personal bias to influence their recommendations.
  • Contact authors directly regarding manuscripts under review.
 
Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Discussions Surya Informatika Journal recognizes that published research may require updates after publication. The journal may publish corrections for minor errors that do not affect the validity of the findings, expressions of concern while investigations are ongoing, or retractions when findings are unreliable due to misconduct or major errors. All post-publication actions will follow COPE recommendations.
 
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies must comply with the journal's policies. Authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content. AI systems cannot be listed as authors and cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work. Any permitted use of AI-assisted technologies must be disclosed transparently within the manuscript.

The journal encourages all participants in the publication process to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and contribute to the advancement of reliable scientific knowledge in computer science and informatics.
