Peer Review Process

Description Submissions should be prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines. The manuscript may be returned to authors without editorial assessment if they do not meet all submission requirements, are not in the correct format, or cannot be downloaded reliably. Authors can only make submissions through the Online Journal System (OJS).

Submissions must represent the original and independent work of the authors. Each new submission is initially assessed by the Editor-in-Chief to determine whether it falls within the general scope of Jurnal Batik-Mu. We will reject a manuscript without review if it contains insufficient content, exceeds our word limit, is incorrectly formatted, is poorly presented, or lacks clarity.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment will be handled by a Section Editor to oversee the review process for contribution, originality, relevance, and presentation. Once a manuscript passes these initial checks, it will be assigned to at least two independent experts for peer review. A single-blind review is applied, where the authors' identities are known to the reviewers. Peer review comments are confidential and will only be disclosed with the express agreement of the reviewer.

All manuscripts are subject to peer review, and authors can expect a decision, or an explanation for any delay, within the estimated timeframe. If a revision is invited, the corresponding author should submit the revised manuscript within 2 weeks. The final decision is taken by the Section Editor based on the information gained through the peer-review process. We ensure that the reviewed manuscript is treated confidentially prior to being published, as explained in our Publication Ethics policy.

Types of Decision There are four types of editorial decisions during the peer review process, which are:

  • Decline Submission

  • Resubmit for Review

  • Revision

  • Accept Submission

Decline Submission Following peer review, the paper is judged not to be acceptable for publication in Jurnal Batik-Mu, and resubmission is not possible.

Resubmit for ReviewThe submitted version of the paper is not acceptable in its current form and requires major revision. However, there is clear potential in the work, and the journal is prepared to consider a new version. Authors are offered the opportunity to resubmit their paper as a new submission. Concerns will remain regarding the suitability of the paper for publication until the editors are convinced by the authors that their paper fits the scope and standards of the journal. The resubmitted manuscript will be returned to the original Section Editor if at all possible.

Revision The paper requires changes before a final decision can be made. Authors are asked to modify their manuscript in light of comments received from reviewers and editors and to submit a new version for consideration within 2 weeks of receiving the decision letter. A point-by-point explanation of how comments have been addressed must be supplied with the revised version of the paper. Revisions may undergo further peer review, and papers may undergo more than one round of revision. If the authors do not revise their papers to the satisfaction of the editors, the paper can still be declined from publication.

Accept SubmissionThe paper is accepted for publication, subject to conditions that need to be addressed in producing a final version of the manuscript. These may include sub-editing changes and minor amendments to ensure the paper fully matches our criteria. After final checking in the editorial office, acceptance is confirmed, and the paper is forwarded to the copyediting and layout stages for publication.

Peer Review Estimation Jurnal Batik-Mu is committed to a fast and rigorous review process. The estimated timeline for the peer review process is as follows:

  • Submission to First Decision: 2 weeks

  • Review Speed (Peer Review Process): 4 weeks

  • Revision Period: 2 weeks

  • Total Estimated Time to Publication Decision: Approximately 8 weeks (2 months)

Galley ProofPage proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for final checking. Corrections to the proofs must be restricted to printer’s errors: any other changes to the text, figures, tables, or grammar may be charged to the author. Proofs should be returned to the editors within three days of receipt to minimize the risk of the author’s contribution having to be held over to a later issue. The editors do not accept responsibility for the correctness of published content. It is the author’s responsibility to check the content at the proof stage.

Editorial and Publishing Process The editorial and publishing process in Jurnal Batik-Mu follows a systematic workflow to ensure the quality and integrity of published articles:

  1. Submission: Authors submit their manuscripts through the OJS platform.

  2. Initial Review: The Editor-in-Chief checks for scope, format, and plagiarism (similarity check).

  3. Peer Review: The Section Editor assigns the manuscript to at least two independent reviewers (single-blind).

  4. Editorial Decision: Based on reviewer recommendations, the editor makes a decision (Accept, Revision, Resubmit, or Decline).

  5. Revision: Authors revise the manuscript according to reviewer feedback.

  6. Final Decision: The editor confirms the final acceptance of the manuscript.

  7. Copyediting: The accepted manuscript undergoes language and formatting editing.

  8. Layout/Typesetting: The manuscript is formatted into the journal's final PDF and HTML galley.

  9. Galley Proof: The author checks the final proof for any typesetting errors.

  10. Publication: The article is published online in the assigned issue.
