Abstract

Abstract
Rice snail shell is one type of animal material that contains calcium carbonate (CaCO3). In toothpaste, calcium carbonate is useful as an abrasive. In the manufacture of toothpaste, Na CMC is used as a gelling agent or binder agent. This study aims to determine the effect of sodium carboxymethylcellulose on the physical properties of rice snail shell toothpaste. Evaluation of physical properties carried out on toothpaste preparations in the form of organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH measurements, dispersion tests, viscosity, and foam formation tests. The results showed that the preparation of rice snail shell toothpaste with a concentration of 3% sodium carboxymethylcellulose; 3.5%; and 4% obtained a homogeneous preparation with brown color, semi-solid form, and mint aroma, pH obtained was 7, dispersion was about 5,01 – 5,48 cm, viscosity was about 11661 - 31900 cps, and foam height was around 3,9 – 4,6 cm. From the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the difference in the concentration of sodium carboxymethylcellulose affects the physical properties of the rice snail shell toothpaste preparation, especially in the dispersion test and viscosity test. The results of the dispersion test obtained at F1, F2, and F3 were 5,48 cm; 5,11 cm; and 5,01 cm. Viscosity test results obtained at F1, F2, and F3 respectively were 11661 cps; 23402 cps; and 31900 cps.

Abstrak
Cangkang keong sawah merupakan salah satu jenis bahan hewani yang mengandung kalsium karbonat (CaCO3). Dalam pasta gigi, kalsium karbonat berguna sebagai bahan abrasif. Pada pembuatan pasta gigi digunakan Na CMC sebagai gelling agent atau binder agent. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh natrium karboksimetilselulosa terhadap sifat fisik dari pasta gigi cangkang keong sawah. Evaluasi sifat fisik yang dilakukan pada sediaan pasta gigi berupa uji organoleptis, homogenitas, pengukuran pH, uji daya sebar, viskositas, dan uji pembentukan busa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sediaan pasta gigi cangkang keong sawah dengan konsentrasi natrium karbosimetilselulosa 3%; 3,5%; dan 4% diperoleh sediaan yang homogen dengan warna coklat, berntuk semi padat, dan aroma mint, pH yang didapat 7, daya sebar sekitar 5,01 - 5,48 cm, viskositas sekitar 11661 – 31900 cps, dan tinggi busa berkisar 3,9 – 4,6 cm. Dari hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa perbedaan konsentrasi natrium karboksimetilselulosa berpengaruh terhadap sifat fisik sediaan pasta gigi cangkang keong sawah terutama pada uji daya sebar dan uji viskositas.
